First Friday Devotion: Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Holy Cross altar during Christmas
This is Triple V's spiritual devotion to Jesus. We attend the First Friday Mass at Holy Cross Church at 204 S. 5th St. Columbus, OH 43215. February 6, 2015 is the next adoration night! Please be generous with your time with Jesus.
The devotion starts with the Holy Mass at 7:30 PM. Then it is followed by the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the recitation of the Litany of Saints. After that, a Eucharistic Procession happens inside the church while singing 'Sing My Tongue'. Once the procession is over, Eucharistic Adoration begins.
Currently, with Fr. Ramon Owera, CFIC presiding at the First Friday Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is being administered while adoration is going on till all penitents are heard (till around 9:30 ~ 10 PM). Going to confession regularly (especially if you have committed grave sins/mortal sins) is a good way start a new month! The confessional that used to exist by Mary's altar is gone, the confessional is now at the Pieta Chapel. The priest is behind the white curtain (directly behind the Pieta image). Penitents can have a face to face confession by entering to the right (facing the Pieta) blue curtains OR for a kneeler behind the screen confession by entering to the left blue curtains.
The photo on the left shows the beautiful altar of Holy Cross Church. Holy Cross is the first Catholic Church and first Church structure built in the City limits of Columbus, OH!
Adoration ends with Benediction at 7:30 AM. You are welcome to enjoy some quiet time with Jesus after the public adoration ends at close to midnight (quiet time is from 12 AM to 7:25 AM Saturday). If you plan to come in during this time, please knock at the door by the handicap entrance on the north side of the church to enter the church as it will be locked as well for the safety of the adorers. The main doors on S. 5th will be locked. Restrooms are available to the right of the main entrance of the church (look for St. Therese's window above the entry way).

Eucharistic Adoration: Why does Triple V do it on First Fridays?
Eucharistic Adoration at Holy Cross Parish
Well, we used to have members attend the First Friday mass at Holy Cross regularly. We just end up meeting up there and decided to make it a habit to attend it. There are special graces for those who attend masses in Honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The 12 promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary to encourage all Catholics to know and understand the benefit of practicing the Devotion and to encourage all to take up its immediate practice.
We also do this to pray for vocations within the group, for those who are already answering their vocations (Bryan O, Mary H, Tim L, Kurai M and many more), for those who are still discerning for their vocations and for those who do not know their vocations in life. We also dedicate this devotion for our priests and for more priestly vocations in our Diocese and around the world!

- I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
- I will give peace in their families and will unite families that are divided.
- I will console them in all their troubles.
- I will be their refuge during life and above all in death.
- I will bestow the blessings of Heaven on all their enterprises.
- Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
- Tepid souls shall become fervent.
- Fervent souls shall rise quickly to great perfection.
- I will bless those places wherein the image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored and will imprint My love on the hearts of those who would wear this image on their person. I will also destroy in them all disordered movements.
- I will give to priests who are animated by a tender devotion to my Divine Heart the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
- Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Hear, never to be effaced.
- I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine (9) consecutive months, the grace of final penitence: they will not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their Sacraments. My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

A Prayer to Release a 1000 souls in Purgatory
Our Lord dictated the following prayer to St. Gertrude the Great to release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said. - Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
Now who can be in more urgent need of our charity than the souls in Purgatory? What hunger, or thirst, or dire sufferings on Earth can compare to their dreadful torments? Neither the poor, nor the sick, nor the suffering, we see around us, have such an urgent need of our help. Yet we find many good-hearted people who interest themselves in every other type of suffering, but alas! scarcely one who works for the Holy Souls. Who can have more claim on us? Among them too, there may be our mothers and fathers, our friends and near of kin. When they are finally released from their pains and enjoy the beatitude of Heaven, far from forgetting their friends on earth, their gratitude knows no bounds. Prostrate before the Throne of God, they never cease to pray for those who helped them. By their prayers they shield their friends from many dangers and protect them from the evils that threaten them.
St. Gertrude's life was the mystic life of the Cloister – a Benedictine nun. She meditated on the Passion of Christ, which many times brought a flood of tears to her eyes. She did many penances and Our Lord appeared to her many times. She had a tender love for the Blessed Virgin and was very devoted to the suffering souls in Purgatory. She died in 1334. Her feast day is November 16th.
